What to Know Before Commissioning a Body Kit
Thinking about a widebody or aero kit? Here is what separates a clean install from a parts-bin disaster, and what to ask your shop before signing off.
Every week we get calls from owners who want a body kit installed. Most of them have already picked the kit. Very few of them have asked the right questions. Here is what we tell every client before we start.
First, not all kits are created equal. A Mansory or TechArt kit comes with engineering, test-fitting data, and hardware designed for a specific chassis. A no-name kit off an overseas marketplace might arrive warped, undersized, or missing mounting points entirely. We have seen both. We only install components we have vetted and that we know fit the chassis they are sold for.
Second, fitment is everything. Even with a premium kit, the install is 80% of the result. Gaps, panel lines, and paint match are where a build either looks factory or looks wrong. Our process includes multiple dry-fits before any panel is permanently mounted, and we handle all paint-matching in-house.
Third, ask your shop about their warranty and rework policy. If a panel does not sit right after install, what happens? At PROXOTIC, we stand behind every build. If something is not right, we fix it. That is the standard.
A body kit is a significant investment. Do your homework on the kit, and do your homework on the shop. The right combination of both is what makes a build worth showing off.
